On-line registration is open
until midnight Thursday March 22nd..
Details:
The first regular meet of the spring season is March 25 at Deer
Grove. The full range of courses will be offered, white and yellow
for the beginners, orange for the intermediate orienteer, and green
and red for the advanced. It's early spring and there's no foliage
on the bushes and trees yet so the woods are open.
NEW FOR 2012 - EPUNCH FOR ALL COURSES:
Beginning with the meet of March 25, all courses will use ePunch
electronic timing. Epunch has been used for the orange, green and
red courses for some time. Now the white and yellow course orienteers
will be able to use this timing system. Best of call, there will
be no cost to use an epunch stick. A loaner epunch will be included
with each registration. The club will continue to sell new epunch
sticks for those that prefer to have their own (we recommend it
for frequent orienteer--it'll save time at registration).
Directions:
Take Route 53 north of I-90 for 6 miles. Exit on Dundee Road, turn
left, and go west 3 miles to Quentin Road. Turn right and go north
0.5 mile. Turn left into the forest preserve. Continue straight
at the first intersection within the preserve. The registration
area will be at the Grove 2 shelter. Follow the orienteering signs
from the second parking area on your left. IMPORTANT:
Park in designated spots only. Otherwise, you will probably be ticketed
by the Cook County Forest Preserve Police.
Public Transportation:
Bring your bike on Metra! A Metra train arrives at the Palatine
station on Sundays at 11:24 a.m. from the Ogilvie Transportation
Center in Chicago. From there you ride or walk north on Smith Street,
past a 19th century cemetery, to the bike path which will lead you
directly into the forest preserve and registration just prior to
the noontime cut-off (2 miles from station).
