New Map – Freeman Kame Meagher Forest Preserve and Tomo Chi Chi Youth Campground– Kane Country Orienteering Map – 3 square kilometers - Scale: 1:7500 (14x17) - 3 meter contour interval. Located between I-90 and Freeman Road; north and west of Gilberts, IL. Freeman Kame Meagher (Tomo Chi Chi Knolls) Forest Preserve is a Forest Preserve District of Kane County (FPDKC) property. Map revised April 2018.

Details:

We will be offering the standard point-to-point courses: white and yellow for beginners, orange for intermediate, and red and green for advanced. The advanced courses -- green and red -- will have some partial memory legs*. At registration green and red course participants will only be given a clue sheet. Other coures will have pre-printed maps.

*Partial Memory Legs for Red and Green. At the Start and at Controls points 1-4 a map (1:5,000) with description for only the first/next leg will be at the location for your review/memorize before proceeding. At Control point 5 a separate Green or Red map with descriptions showing the entire course (including 1-5) can be picked up to complete the remaining point-to-point locations. Memory lengths for 5 controls each: Red 1.9 km/Green 1.2 km. Total course lengths, including Memory, for Green 4.6 KM/Red 6.0.

Self-Regulated Starts for Red and Green Courses. Try to provide separation of at least a minute (or two) between your e-punch start and someone starting ahead of you on the same course. After e-punching the Start control proceed to a designated area close to the start to review/memorize your route to point #1.

On-line registration is open until midnight Friday, November 9th.

The volunteer appreciation banquet and Annual General Meeting will be held at the Tomo Chi Chi lodge following the meet. Lunch will start at approximately 2pm with the AGM following around 4pm. All volunteers (and their families) from 2018 are welcome. Please sign-up here so we have enough food.

Parking and Staging area will be at the Tomo Chi Chi lodge and campground located within the southern section of Freeman Kame Meagher forest preserve. We have the lodge, parking areas, shelter and campground reserved for the day. Car parking will be in the asphalt lot that holds about 50 cars: bus parking and overflow car parking will be in the large gravel parking area south the main road – you’ll pass by it on the way to the main parking/registration area.

Pit toilets are located south of the main parking area and a couple nearer the campground sites.
