Veterans' Acres Night-O Meet
The annual Club Night Orienteering meet was held on the Veterans' Acres map located in Crystal Lake, Illinois on a rainy Saturday night. Meet Directors Rich Gaylord and Joe Sehnal has conspired to present two devilishly challenging courses, made all the more difficult by the warm rain that fell throughout the meet.
Since the normal shelter was taken by another group, Joe and Rich set up Registration and map distribution in the bathrooms...,the only other dry, lighted spot on the whole map! But despite the difficulties and uncooperative weather, about 70 orienteers still showed up and started on one of the two courses. Although 11 teams and individuals decided to drop out on the Green course, 27 did finish.
Kevin Teschendorf came down from Madison to display his night orienteering prowess, and run an amazingly fast 49:10, for a average pace of about ten minutes per kilometer, which is a good pace even in the daylight! Kevin was the Meet Director for the annual Badger Club Night-O meet, which was held the previous Saturday night in Blue Mound, Wisconsin.
