We usually look forward to our fall meets as a welcome relief
from the sweltering summers we’ve experienced. No such luck
at our Willow Springs meet. Temperatures in the high 80's added
to the challenges for the day.
We had a good turn-out with over
220 participants racing the five courses. Many first time orienteers
came out to try their luck
on the white and yellow courses. This included a number of teams
competing in next weeks Wild Scallion Urban Adventure race who
were advised to come to this meet for a practice run.
Special thanks
to the volunteers who came out to help: Al Baumgarten on registration;
Gil Novak (and Dairy), Julie Lindgren, Mitch Adams,
Steve Breese (and a husband and wife Boy Scout team whose names
I didn’t get) on the start/finish table; and Joe Sackett,
Charlie Shabazian, Steve Breese (and his girlfriend), and Paul
Henke for control pick-up, and of course, Jim Marshall for numerous
beginner clinics.
