It was the new big meltdown in the Chicago area that guaranteed
wet feet at the first Madnaess run and JROTC O-meet.
The JROTC showed up 81 cadets for the yellow and orange courses.
In addition, several dozen other orienteerers showed up for the
yellow, orange, and Madnaess courses.
These courses at Harms woods featured icy trails, making spikes
the footwear of choice.The Madnaess runners had to go south for
the first three controls and then head past the shelter to finish
the last 20 controls. As runners found out, the second to last control
had to cross about a 12 foot length of ankle deep and ice cold water.
I have to apologize about that one as there was little to no water
at the time of planning the courses, and it was too late to eliminate
the control.
