On-line registration will be open
until midnight Wednesday November 13th.
Details:
NOTE: This is a SATURDAY event.
Get two events for one registration!
EVENT 1: LAKE COUNTY INDIANA FAIRGROUNDS. This
is a sprint event. Start any time between noon and 1pm. There is
a two hour time limit. Courses close at 3pm.
EVENT 2: NIGHT ORIENTEERING AT LEMON LAKE COUNTY PARK.
Start between 5pm and 6pm. A headlamp or flashlight is required!
Courses close at 8pm.
We'll have a beginners clinic at 11:30 at the Fairgrounds event.
There will not be a beginner's clinic at the Night-O.
Between Events: Take advantage of the time between
the events to visit downtown Crown Point on the square. Local restaurants
include the Crown Brewery, located in the building where John Dillinger
made his famous escape using a fake gun carved out of soap, Carriage
Court Pizza located in the same building, The Tavern on Main, The
Safe House Bar & Grill, and Papa’s Deli – all located
on the square. The two events are less than 10 minutes apart so
you have plenty of time to grab a bite before the Night-O.
Meet Director's Notes:
Sprint: This event is in an open fairgrounds,
with some buildings that are pass through and some that are not.
It is a great location for first time orienteers. Experienced orienteers
will get a good warm-up for the night event. Map scale is 1:4000.
No spikes on the sprint course please.
Night-O: The Night-O is located in a county park
known for its disc golf courses. (The professional disc golf World
Championships have been held at Lemon Lake twice). There are over
54 disc golf holes. Map scale is 1:7500. There is ample opportunity
for parallel errors on this course. As a general rule, areas mapped
dark green are impregnable. I suggest not attempting to cross dark
green areas even for a very short distance. Disc golf tees are either
concrete or rubber matted squares and are mapped as small ruins
filled in with light brown. Use caution on the tees as they can
be slippery when wet. Disc golf cages are mapped with the special
object circle. Other special objects are mapped with an X. There
will be no reflectors on the controls. Many are on disk golf cages
which shine when hit with a headlight. The others will be set so
as to be visible from a reasonable distance.
