Hot times, summer in the city..., and in Busse Woods North
for a sunny, humid day of running through the forest.
We registered 236 people for this meet, including enthusiastic
groups from Leyden Township High School, Boy Scouts, and the Bridge
Youth Advocacy Program, who had success and fun on the white course.
The beginners' clinics and advice, offered by Jim Marshall and
Kyle McNerney, were well-populated all morning, and several newcomers
who tried their first white course decided to go out a second time
for a greater challenge on the yellow trails. We look forward to
seeing many of these faces returning at future events!
The advanced courses seemed to prove a challenge to a lot of competitors,
as there were a number of DNFs as well as mispunches for red and
green runners. Maricel Olaru claimed top honors on the red course,
narrowly edging out his closest competition, Valentas Totoris,
by a mere eight seconds.
Thanks go out to the many people who came together to make a successful
day of orienteering. Drew Bolda, Kathy Bullard, Nicholas Favale,
Tom Favale Jr., Thomas Favale III, Jeff Markus, Jim Marshall,
Clark Maxfield, Tim McMahon, Kyle McNerney, Joe Sackett, Joseph
Sackett III, Charlie
Shahbazian, and Jeff Shaw all gave of their time to make the event
run smoothly.
Just a note to everyone who enjoys the challenges and excitement
of our CAOC meets:
Our organization functions solely by the efforts of dedicated
volunteers. Please consider giving a couple of hours of time before
or after your run as a volunteer at the registration desk, start/finish
table, or picking up controls. It's a great way to get to
know more orienteering faces, and pick up on some orienteering
tips as well. Everyone is welcome—we love training
new faces in the various duties, and can find something that will
suit anyone's
interests or abilities. For more information, or to say "Yes,
I'll help!," drop an e-mail to the president or
vice-president.
Thanks in advance!
