The Meet Director Reports:
Thank you so much to everyone who turned out for the first (annual?) Chicago Urban Rogaine hosted by CAOC. In fact, so many more people turned out than we expected that we ran out of maps. Thanks to Chris Gladwin for running out and making more copies.
Congratulations to Chris Gladwin, too, for sweeping the course and winning the Biking category. He got to all 50 controls in less than 3 ½ hours. Drew Howard also swept the course with 12 minutes to spare. Way to go! Amongst the runners, Ted and Aza got the most controls, 33, and they had over an hour of time left!
Thank you to REI—Lincoln Park and Claire Hurwitz for sponsoring the meet and providing a great meeting room for the start/finish. It was a most comfortable spot, and they provided free snacks and discount coupons (yeah, stuff!).
We had beautiful weather: sunny, warm (not too hot, though), and a nice lake breeze. Several of the controls "walked off" during the day, but most folks found the control codes written nearby in chalk. "Nuts!" to the restaurant at Oak Street Beach for cleaning up the control and the chalk. The goods news is most control features were easy enough to identify even without the can of Tropicana Pink Lemonade (whew, I'm glad I don't have to drink any more of that...).
Here are the preliminary results. I know we're missing a few people's results. We'll get those listed as soon as we sort through the pictures. Also, in the next few days, we'll be posting some of the pictures people took at the control locations. A big, big thank you to everyone for embracing the experiment of using cameras to track visits to controls. We'll definitely do that again.
Thank you to Kathy Bullard for stepping up as Meet Director (a giant personal favor), and to Kathy and Carl Larsson for helping select control locations and improve the map. There's still a lot of work to be done on the map; I can't wait for the next event!
Someone left a shirt at the registration area. Let me know if you'd like it back.
